Gentlemen. It is not often that I get to write an e-mail like this, but
I hope that you read this to your membership, or forward it to those
that attended a recent funeral here on Long Island.
My extended family recently lost their grandfather, Frank Weiss. I had
always known him as Poppy Frank, even though he was of no blood relation
to me. He was a great and kind man that always spoke with a soft heart.
He passed away last week and I was told that his burial was to be at
Calverton National Cemetery. I hadn't known until that moment that he
had even served his country. I told my father to make sure that the
family notified the funeral home of the fact that he had served and
asked that they take whatever steps they deemed appropriate.
My father is a former member of the Red Knights NY 25. At the funeral,
he was very impressed to see a member of RKNY 26 in attendance, as well
as a nice contingency of the Patriot Guard. The entire family was
further moved when they arrived at Calverton Cemetery where they were
greeted by a flag line of at least 20 members of varying members of
military and the Patriot Guard. The only word they could use to describe
this tribute was AWESOME.
My extended family is from upstate NY and had no idea of the compassion
and love of country that we have here on Long Island. They were truly in
awe. I am personally grateful to all of you that continue every day to
show that we love our military, and those that serve our communities,
and are willing to show them the respect that they deserve.
