Honor Mission

Gary L. Teel

US Army
Vietnam Veteran
VietnamServiceRibbons

Multi-City, NY - 01/24/2025

Mission applies to the following Region(s):

Region 8, Region 9

About the Mission:

Gary L. Teel, in pre-planning his funeral, specifically requested Patriot Guard Riders' participation at his final military services. Gary, age 79, resident of Sayville, passed away on January 18, 2025.

Gary Lee Teel proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. His commendations include; Bronze Star, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge (2 bars) and Soldier Protective System, M-14, M-16 and M-60.  He was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant.

Gary sustained wounds in combat and was awarded the Purple Heart. He declined it, because he felt his wounds were not severe enough to warrant the award. This was a reflection on his character and sentiments towards those he served with that sustained more significant injuries.

After his discharge Gary went on to have a career as an Assistant Vice President and Bank Manager with Chemical Bank. In 1996, Gary’s career took a new direction when he joined The Hampton Day School as the school’s Business Manager. Gary was also an active member of the Sayville American Legion Post.
