About the Mission:
On behalf of the family, the Downrange Riders MC, Blood & Steel Chapter have invited Patriot Guard Riders to participate in the escort and military honors funeral services of Carson A. Thompson. Mr. Thompson, 102, of Amsterdam, passed on 26 January 2025.
Carson grew up in Amsterdam, NY where he graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School and Union College. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on 22 July 1943, and was deployed to Europe in November of 1944. There he served as a Field Lineman (MOS 641), laying and mainitaining telephone and telegraph wires and cables, often under challenging conditions. His duties took him to Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe, where over the next 10 months, he earned the rank of Technician 4th Grade (T/4). For his service, he was awarded the European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon w/4 Bronze Stars, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
After the war, Carson returned to Amsterdam and began his career as a textile chemist at Mohawk Carpets (Mohasco). He was a devoted and active member of the United Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam, NY, where he served on the session. In addition to his church involvement, Carson was a proud member of the Free Masons. He was also an avid skier and a dedicated member of the National Ski Patrol. A passionate golfer, he achieved the incredible feat of scoring 10 hole-in-ones during his lifetime and could often be found enjoying a round at the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course.

Special Information:
Staging at the church with a flag line for a dignified transfer following church services. Under the direction of the Downrange Riders MC, Patriot Guard Riders will participate in the escort of the funeral cortege to Fairview Cemetery, 272 Steadwell Ave., Amsterdam, NY 12010, where interment with military honors will be conducted. Following military honors, the PGRNY Ride Captain will present a plaque to the family honoring Mr. Thompson's service to our nation.
