About the Mission:
The family of Samuel J. Garzone, Jr. has requested Patriot Guard Riders' participation in his military honors funeral services. Samuel, 78, died Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Troy, NY, Samuel was a lifelong resident and attended Troy Schools. He was called to active duty from the US Navy Reserve during the Vietnam War, on 30 June 1966. He was assigned to the USS Raleigh (LPD-1), an amphibious transport dock where he served almost 2 years at sea. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Seaman (E-3) on 2 July 1968, and for his service, was awarded a National Defense Service Medal.
After his military service, Sam was a salesman for American Steel and Aluminum in Albany for 30 years retiring several years ago. After his retirement, he worked for the Frear Park Municipal Golf Course. He was a member and 3 time Commander of the Wynantskill American Legion, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, a 50 year member of the Watervliet-Colonie Elks Lodge #1500, and a 4th Degree member of the Our Lady of Victory's Knight's of Columbus.

Staging at the funeral home with a flag line for a dignified transfer. Members will escort to Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 N Lake Ave., Troy, for a 10:00 am Funeral Mass, followed by escort to Saratoga National Cemetery for interment with military honors.
