About the Mission:
The family of Edward J. Merendo has requested Patriot Guard Riders' participation in his military honors funeral services. Edward, 76, of Vail Mills, NY passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
Born in Amsterdam, NY, Edward was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from St. Mary’s Institute and went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He enlisted on 6 April 1966 and was trained as a Rifleman (Specialty 0311). He served on active duty for 2 years and 4 months, including an 11 month tour of duty in Vietnam where he was wounded. He was discharged at the rank of Private on 5 August 1968 and for his service, was awarded; Purple Heart (3 awards), Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/1960 Device, Marksman Badge - Rifle and Marksman Badge - Pistol.
Following his return home, Edward started a roofing business with his family before he became a long term employee at Schenectady International, now known as SI Group, prior to retiring. He was also a 56 year member of the American Legion Post 337 and a life member of VFW Post 8690 in Broadalbin.
