About the Mission:

The family of US Coast Guard Captain (Retired) Daniel K. Shorey has requested Patriot Guard Riders' participation in his military honors funeral services.  Captain Shorey, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 31, 2025, at The Pines at Glens Falls.

Born on November 12, 1941, in Royal Oak, Michigan, Dan and his family returned to Burnt Hills, where he became a proud graduate of Burnt Hills–Ballston Lake High School.  He joined the United States Coast Guard on 5 June 1963, later graduating from the Academy at New London, Connecticut.  He attended US Navy Flight Training School, Test Pilot School and several helicopter training schools, and went on to serve over 27 years on active duty, retiring on 31 July 1990 at the rank of Captain (O-6).  For his service, he was awarded; Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Achievement Medal w/ "O" Device, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Unit Commendation w/ "O" Device, Commandant's Letter of Commendation, Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Special Operations Service Ribbon, Bicentennial Unit Commendation Ribbon, Command Ashore Insignia, Expert Rifleman Ribbon, Sharpshooter Pistol Ribbon, and the Aviator Insignia.

After retiring from active duty in 1990, Dan continued to serve others by managing St. Petersburg’s 911 system for several years and later working as a technical recruiter in the electronics field.

Special Information:

Members will stand a flag line for the arrival of family and friends. After church services, members will conduct a dignified transfer and then proceed to the cemetery located behind the church for interment with military honors.
