About the Mission:

The family of Lucille and Carmen Scoppa have asked Patriot Guard Riders to participate in honoring the military service of their parents. Mrs. Scoppa passed 01 January 2015 at the age of 90. Mr. Scoppa passed 05 May 2022 at the age of 96.

Mrs. Scoppa served in the US Coast Guard for one year and one month from 1945-1946 with a rating of Yeoman, Third Class (E-4). She served at the US Coast Guard Barracks in Washington, DC and was honorably discharged 27 May 1946. She earned: World War II Victory Medal, Honorable Discharge Lapel Pin (Ruptured Duck), and the US Coast Guard Honorable Service Pin and Emblem.

Mr. Scoppa served in the US Army for one year, nine months from 1944-1946. He achieved the rank of Private (E-2) with the MOS: 405 - Personnel Clerk. Mr. Scoppa served with the 209th Field Artillery Battalion, spending four months in Europe, and participating in two Campaigns (Rhineland and Central Europe). Mr. Scoppa was honorably discharged 04 May 1946. He earned: US Army Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars (two Campaigns), World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal w/ Germany Clasp, Honorable Discharge Lapel Pin (Ruptured Duck).

The two are being interred in a single urn at the Western New York National Cemetery.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

The CDC has changed its COVID-19 protocol recommendations for 2024, updating them to reflect the changing severity and transmission of the virus. Please click here for the latest information and continue to practice common sense distancing protocols while in enclosed locations.


Special Information:

PGR Members will stage at 12:30pm. We will form a flag line for the arrival of the family and remains. I expect the family to arrive between 1:00 pm and 1:15 pm. PGR Members will escort the cortege to the Western NY National Cemetery starting at 1:30pm. At the cemetery, PGR Members will form a flag line at the Committal Shelter pending the arrival of the cortege. We will render honors during services with the military honor guard. Services are expected to begin at 2:00pm. Following services, we will render a final salute, and perform a dignified transfer from the Committal Shelter to the Columbarium.

Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American, US Coast Guard, or US Army flag, and ensure your vehicle flags are securely attached for the escort to the cemetery.
