About the Mission:

The family of George S. Poppe has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation at his final military honors. George served in the United States Marines during WWll.

As a member of the "Greatest Generation" George served in Guantanamo Bay Cuba from December 1940 - April 1941, and with the Fleet Marine Force Asiatic Pacific area from May 1942 - March 1945. He participated in operations against enemy forces in Tulagi, British Solomon Islands, Cape Gloucester, and Talasea. George was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received during his combat service. George was also a Rifle Sharpshooter and Drill Instructor. Accommodations include the Good Conduct Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button and USMC Honorable Discharge Button.

Upon discharge, George began his career as a New York City Firefighter, serving until his retirement in the mid 70's at the rank of Captain. He was known to never send his men into a fire until he first entered.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

After a dignified transfer at the funeral home, we will proceed directly to Calverton National Cemetery for military honors. There is no viewing, so we are expected to depart the funeral home promptly at 09:30.
