About the Mission:
PFC Garfield was in Vietnam attached to 7th Sqd, 17th Cav, 1st Airborne when, on January 15, 1969, his squad was sent on a rescue mission to find helicopter pilots who had been shot down. Upon reaching the area they were heavily attacked and surrounded. During the fight, a grenade landed in front of PFC Langhorn and several wounded men. With no hesitation, he threw himself on the grenade, saving the lives of his fellow soldiers while giving up his own. PFC Langhorn is the only Suffolk County resident of the Vietnam War to be awarded the Medal Of Honor for his action. The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 11 Langhorn Committee spent over a year making a professional film of his story and Patriot Guard Riders has been requested to attend as we have for other Garfield Langhorn events.
