About the Mission:
Lance Corporal Gregory T Buckley, Jr., assigned to Headquarters Company, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, was attached to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C., when he was shot and killed on 10 August 2012 in Garmsir, Afghanistan by an Afghan civilian dressed as an Afghani Police Officer. Also killed was Marine Staff Sgt. Scott E. Dickinson, 29, of San Diego and Marine Cpl. Richard A. Rivera Jr., 20 of Ventura, Calif.
A basketball tournament is held annually in remembrance of Gregory T. Buckley, Jr.
The Basketball Court at Oceanside Park will be dedicated to the memory of Lance Corporal Gregory T. Buckley, Jr.
