About the Mission:

Gustave Pappas faithfully and honorably executed his duties to our nation in the US Navy as a Corpsman from the time of his enlistment on 26 October 1966, until his honorable discharge on 14 September 1969. His time included almost two years of Vietnam in-country service where he was embedded with the Marine Corps. He held a rating of Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class (HM3 - Petty Officer 3rd Class).

For his faithful service he was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries suffered on 15 May 1969, when a grenade exploded in his ambulance in Phu Bai, Vietnam.  He was also awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
