Region 8, Region 9
About the Mission:
Stanley J. Reba was a 1941 graduate of Boys High School in Brooklyn, where he was a standout football player. He earned the Lou Gehrig Football Award and a seven month scholarship to Holy Cross College. He later entered the service during WW II as a 2nd Lieutenant, and served for 3 years in the South Pacific. During that period, he earned a Purple Heart Medal.
After his military service, Stanley married, and later joined the Smoke Jumpers, an elite fire fighting unit. On August 5th, 1949 he and 12 other Smoke Jumpers parachuted into a fire scene in Mann Gulch, Montana. The fire had just started but as they arrived on the scene, the fire had a "blowup" which caused it to accelerate tremendously and all 13 Smoke Jumpers perished. A graveside Memorial sevice will be conducted on this, the 75th anniversary of that tragic day.
Patriot Guard Riders has been requested to stand a flag line during a memorial for this American Hero.
