HOTH Mission
LCpl Jordan C. Haerter Memorial Run

US Marine Corps
Sag Harbor, NY - 07/31/2022
Mission applies to the following Region(s):
Region 8, Region 9
About the Mission:
Once again we have been asked by Gold Star Mom JoAnn Lyles to stand a flag line at the foot of the LCpl Jordan C. Haerter Memorial Bridge for the 5k run/walk held in his honor. LCpl Haerter was a Sag Harbor native.
On April 22nd, 2008 at 7:36 in the morning Marine Lance Corporal Jordan Haerter was manning a guard post along with Corporal Jonathan Yale at the entrance to Joint Security Station Nassar in Ramadi, Iraq. Without warning, a truck loaded with 2000 lbs of high explosives began racing towards them through a serpentine of concrete Jersey barriers in an attempt to breach the security corridor and to kill the 33 Marines and 20 Iraqi police housed in the compound. In a selfless act of valor and courage, the two brave marines stood rock solid and unwavering, opening fire on the suicide bomber and killing him instantly. The truck continued forward briefly and exploded, devastating the surrounding area, taking the lives of Haerter and Yale, and injuring 2 other marines and numerous Iraqi police and citizens but ultimately saving the lives of the other men.
For his "extraordinary heroism" that day, Lance Corporal Haerter was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross.
Please join us and honor Jordan and his family by standing with your flags as the runners cross the bridge
