About the Mission:
Stephen J. Gismondi faithfully and honorably executed his duties to our nation from 4 January 1951 until his honorable discharge as PFC on 21 December 1952 in the US Army during the Korean War. He served with the 1769 Yokohama Transportation Company Depot as a truck driver. For his service, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Family reports that he was in Nevada during Nuclear Weapons testing resulting in significant service-related disability. Radiation poisoning eventually killed most of his platoon.
He was a member of DAV and Past Commander of East Meadow VFW and led their Color Guard. He was also partly responsible for adding the VA Floor to the Veterans Services Agency in East Meadow because the Northport VA was far from Nassau County veterans. His family requests that Patriot Guard Riders participate in his final honors.
