About the Mission:

Eugene (Gene) VanHaaren faithfully and honorably executed his duties to our nation in the US Air Force from the time of his induction on December 26, 1963, until his honorable discharge on December 11, 1967. He attained the rank of Sergeant (E-4) and for his service as a Jet Engine Mechanic (AFSC 43250), he earned the following: Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Small Arms Expert Marksman Ribbon.

Gene was a proud and very active member of the Elmont American Legion Post 1033. He was a long time Trustee for the Post and a Past 1st Vice Commander. Recently, through his employment at Home Depot he was instrumental in having the Post renovated. Due to his dedication and commitment to the post and helping other veterans, the large hall of the post will be dedicated in his honor as the “VanHaaren Hall”.

His family requests Patriot Guard Riders participation in his final honors.

Special Information:

Patriot Guard Riders will meet the family of Eugene VanHaaren at the Legion Post. We will escort the family, who will be transporting the cremains of Eugene, to Calverton National Cemetery where we will stand to honor this American Hero.

Please stage at entrance for the arrival of procession. Escort ETA 11:30 - 11:45am. Ceremony is scheduled at Calverton National Cemetery for 12:00pm
