HOTH Mission
"Torque" the Huey Helicopter Dog Escort
All Military Branches and LEO
New York City, NY - 08/27/2024
Mission applies to the following Region(s):
Region 7, Region 8, Region 9
About the Mission:
The life-size statue of “Torque”, the Huey Helicopter Dog is being transported from Oakland, California to the American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog in New York City. In cooperation with our California PGR brothers and sisters, we have been asked to escort the statue of “Torque” from Southwest Airlines Cargo Terminal at LaGuardia International Airport to the Museum. The 200 pound cargo box will be transported by Bergen Funeral Services, with NYPD escort expected. We will be joined by several Law Enforcement Agencies' K-9 Units as well as those of military branches.
Here is some background information about the dog that this statue represents:
Torque is a detection dog that helps investigators put child sexual predators and traffickers away. She also accompanies veterans who are suffering from PTSD, on exposure therapy flights in a fully restored 1965 Vietnam War era Huey helicopter, and holds the world record for the dog with the most flights in a Huey Helicopter. The life-size sculpture of Torque was carved by world-renowned wood sculptor, James Mellick, who also carved the Wounded Warrior Dogs and K9 War Stories.
You are encouraged to take a few minutes and use the following links to learn more about Torque and the important contribution that she and her fellow service dogs make in their ongoing support of our military, military veterans and Law Enforcement Officers:
