About the Mission:

The family of Richard C. Maraglio has requested Patriot Guard Riders' participation in his military honors funeral services. Richard, 80, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on January 18, 2025 in Lake Katrine, New York.

Richard grew up in Merrick on Long Island and graduated from Calhoun High School in 1963. He studied at Mercy Hospital’s School of Radiography and became a licensed Radiologic Technologist prior to commissioning in the US Army. As a Chief Warrant Officer One in the Army, Richard served in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot assigned to the 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment (the Blackhorse Regiment). For his heroic actions above and beyond the call of duty on 13 November 1968, Richard was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal. The citation accompanying the award is available for viewing online by clicking here.

After his service to his country in the war, Richard returned home and went back to college to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Science at Long Island University, CW Post Campus. During his 25 years of service in the US Army and New York National Guard, he mastered military helicopter aviation while working his way upwards to become a Hospital Administrator. He decided to take a job as a hospital administrator in New Mexico where he later retired.

Portions of the above narrative are contained in Richard's obituary, available for viewing online by clicking here
