About the Mission:
The family of John C. "Jack" LaReau has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. Jack, 77, died January 2, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a months-long illness.
Born in Shreveport, LA, Jack spent most of his childhood growing up in Albany, NY. After graduating from Vincentian Institute in Albany, he entered the US Army on 11 August 1967. He served as a Payroll Disbursement Specialist (MOS 73C20), and completed an 11 month tour of duty in Vietnam with the 1st Logistics Command. Jack was honorably discharged on 3 August 1969 at the rank of Specialist 5th Class, and for his service was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device.
Upon his discharge from the military in 1969, Jack graduated from the State University of New York at Albany, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in English. After a short stretch teaching in the Albany School District, he began a 30+ year career with the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, retiring as the Help Desk Manager in 2007.
