About the Mission:

The family of Jerry Dean Syzdek has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. Jerry, 55, of Mayfield, New York, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024 at home.

Jerry was born on June 11, 1969 in Amsterdam, where he lived for most of his life. He attended Amsterdam schools, and was a graduate of Amsterdam High School. After graduating from high school, Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served his country for 20 years, during which time he had been deployed to serve during Operation Desert Storm and the Persian Gulf War. He attained the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class, with a rating of Aviation Metalsmith 2.

For his service, he was awarded; the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation (4th award), Navy "E" Ribbon (3rd award), Navy Good Conduct Medal (5th award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd award, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (5th award), Navy Recruiting Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation (Kuwait)(2nd award), Navy Gold Wreath (4th award) and an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Insignia.

Following his retirement from the Navy, Jerry went on to work as a mechanic for many years in the local area.

Special Information:

Staging at the funeral home with a flag line for the arrival of family and guests. We will stand for the last hour of Visitation, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm. Following services at the funeral home, members will escort to Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville, NY 12078, for interment with military honors.
