About the Mission:

The family of Bernard S. "Bernie" Leonka has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. Bernie, 88, formerly of Glens Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

Born in Schenectady, NY, Bernie was a graduate of Knott Terrace High School and then continued his education taking classes toward earning a degree in Physical Therapy. Following college, he enlisted in the US Army on 27 January 1955. He was trained as a Medical Aidman (MOS 911.10) and spent 2 years on active duty. He was honorably discharged on 25 January 1957 at the rank of Specialist 3rd Class, and for his service, was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.

After 32 years of working for General Electric in Fort Edward, Bernie retired as business manager. His final and favorite job for over 12 years was driving the school bus for Abraham Wing School.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.

Special Information:

Staging at the funeral home with a flag line for dignified transfer. Members will escort to Saratoga National Cemetery for a 2:30 pm interment service.
