About the Mission:
The family of William D. Fitzgerald has requested Patriot Guard Riders' participation in his military honors funeral services. William, 77, passed on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
A life-long resident of Albany, New York, William was educated in the Albany Catholic and public school system. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, on 17 October 1968. He was trained as a Rifleman (Specialty 0311) and served 1 year and 5 months on active duty, including a 10 month tour of duty in Vietnam with Company "L", 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division (Rein), Fleet Marine Forces. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal on 1 April 1970, and for his service, was awarded a Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device.
Upon returning home, he was employed as a plumber and pipe fitter, skills he learned while deployed and on active duty in the U.S. In 1980, William entered the New York Army National Guard. He served from 1980 until his retirement at the rank of Staff Sergeant in 2004.

Staging at the church with a flag line for the arrival of the funeral cortege. At the conclusion of the church services, members will escort to Memory Gardens Cemetery, 983 Watervliet Shaker Road, Albany, NY for interment with military honors.
