About the Mission:

The family of Walter V. Hansen has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. Walter, 79, a longtime resident of Brunswick, died peacefully, Monday, December 12, 2023, in the comfort of his home.

Born in Troy, NY, Walter was a graduate of Tamarac High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy on 28 June 1961 and following basic training, was stationed aboard the USS Hartley, a a Dealey-class destroyer escort during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam War era. He attained the rank of Seaman (E-3), with a rating of Fireman.  He was honorably discharged on 8 January 1965 and completed his inactive reserve obligation on 8 June 1967.

After returning home from the service, Walter was employed as a technician by the LaCorte Company and later as a mechanic at both the former Bumstead Chevrolet auto dealership in Troy and Capital Tractor Company in Brunswick. Most recently, he was under the employment of Warren W. Fane, Inc. in Speigletown, where he worked as a truck driver for over 10 years.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

A funeral service will be conducted at 09:00 am.  Members will stage at the funeral home with a flag line for the dignified transfer. Estimated departure time to Saratoga National Cemetery is 10:30 am. Interment with military honors scheduled for 11:30 am.
