About the Mission:

Patriot Guard Riders has been invited by the family of Walter C. Catallo to participate in his military honors funeral services.   Walter “Wally” Catallo - 92, died peacefully September 1, 2022 at home with his family.

A lifelong resident of Waterford, Wally graduated from Waterford High School prior to enlisting in the US Marine Corps on 26 September 1950.  He served with Able Co., 1 st Battalion, 5th Regiment during the Korean War, where he was wounded in action on 23 April 1951.  He was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal, and for his service, was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with four Battle Stars, United Nations Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and a Marksman Rifle Badge.

Upon returning home from the war, Wally went to work for the US Post Office in 1952 and after 33 years, retired as Postmaster in 1985.  He became a member of the Kavanaugh Hook & Ladder Fire Co in 1952. He was an honorary member of the Halfmoon-Waterford Fire Co and served 23 years as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Halfmoon-Waterford Fire District. He was a life member of the Halfmoon American Legion Post #1450.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Updated 8 March 2022

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: NYS Guidelines of 2 March 2022, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

We will stage with a flag line at the church and wait for the arrival of the cortege, stand for dignified transfer and then stand down during funeral services. After the church service and dignified transfer, we will provide an escort to Saratoga National Cemetery for a 12:30 p.m. service.

After this service we will stay and stand for William Bunker, for a 1:00 pm service.

Second Stage - Special Information:

Note that there is a new staging protocol for Saratoga National Cemetery.  PGR members will stage by parking ONLY on the right side of the roadway near Section 21.  If that area is full, the overflow parking area will be on the right side of the roadway near Interment Shelter 1.  Please park as closely together as possible.  As always, you are asked to stage quietly and respectfully.  Interment services for this mission will be conducted in Interment Shelter 1.    Please click here to view a map of the designated area
