About the Mission:
The family of Robert O. Dempsey has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. Robert, 72, of Canajoharie, passed away on July 26, 2023, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Salmon, Idaho, Robert proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and United States Air Force. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 01 May 1968, served a total of 2 years and 1 month on active duty, including an 11 month tour of duty in Vietnam as a Disbursing Clerk (MOS 3421). He was released from active duty on 08 April 1970, and honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal (E-4) from the inactive reserves on 27 February 1974.
While in the reserves, Robert transferred to active duty with the US Air Force on 09 February 1971. He was trained as an Aerospace Ground Equipment Technician (AFSC 45471), and completed a total of 20 years and 5 months of active duty, including a total of 4 years and 4 months of overseas duty. He was honorably discharged on 31 July 1991 at the rank of Technical Sergeant (E-6), and for his service, was awarded; the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Good Conduct Medal w/6 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal w/1 Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Bronze Star, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, Air Force Overseas Long Tour ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon w/4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Palm, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After his military service, Robert also worked at JC Watson Co; Mireon, Walmart and Finkelys. He also volunteered at two fire departments.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.
Special Information:
We will stage a flag line upon arrival, for family and friends. At 4 pm, we will go inside for military honors and then make our plaque presentation. After this is done, the ride captain can choose to stand down or stay a bit longer.
