About the Mission:

The family of Robert F. Cheeney, Sr. has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral service.   Robert, 78, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at his home.


Born in Glens Falls, NY, Bob attended Fort Edward Central School. In 1967, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Vietnam War until 1970. Bob served in the United States National Guard from March 2, 1974, until his retirement on December 1, 1991.  Among his many awards for his service were a Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device.

His second home for 18 years was the American Legion Post 574, and he was the Historian for them. In 2016, Bob received Legionnaire of the Year for all his hard work and time he put in. He was also a member of the Color Guard where he would do parades, funerals, and any other ceremonies they were needed at. Bob was also the historian for the Color Guard.

We will stand a flag line for the arrival of family and friends until Noon, then conduct a dignified transfer, followed by escort to Union Cemetery, Schuyler St., Fort Edward for burial.
Bob was the brother of Peter Cheeney, who we stood for in June of 2023.
