About the Mission:

The family of Robert E. "Woody" Woods, Sr. has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. "Woody", 86, formerly of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away peacefully on November 9th, 2022.

Born in Poughkeepsie, NY, Woody graduated from Poughkeepsie High School. He entered the US Navy near the end of the Korean War, on 11 February, 1954. He proudly served for 8 years and was honorably discharged with a rating of Boatswains Mate, Petty Officer 3rd Class, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He completed his inactive reserve duty on 10 February 1962. Woody was employed as a Letter Carrier at the Poughkeepsie Main Post Office for 38 years. During these years, he also served in the Army Reserve in Poughkeepsie, and then in the NY Air National Guard at Stewart Air Force Base in Newburgh, where he was honorably discharged on 3 December 1995 at the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

Staging at the funeral home with a flag line for dignified transfer. Escort to Saratoga National Cemetery for an 11:00 am interment service to follow.
