About the Mission:
The family of Robert E. Schmit, Sr. has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. Robert, 97, passed away Monday,October 30, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born in Albany, NY, Robert attended Roessleville High School where he played football. He then enlisted in the United States Navy on January 24, 1944, serving during World War II. He participated in two tours; Iwo Jima and Okinawa campaigns. He was honorably discharged on May 5, 1946.
Robert went on to attend and graduate from Brewers Academy in New York City. He was employed as a Brew Master by Hedrick’s Brewing Company and then Schaffer Brewing Company. Robert also worked in sales and as a contractor in the trades, building his family home on McNutt Avenue after the war.

Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.
Special Information:
Staging at the funeral home with a flag line for the last 30 minutes of family visitation. Escort to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 63 Mountain View Ave., Albany, NY 12205-2803 to follow. Church service scheduled for 11:00 am. Upon conclusion of services, members will escort to St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, 303 Sand Creek Road, Albany, NY for interment with military honors.
