About the Mission:

The family of Peter D. Cheeney has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services.  Peter, 73, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at the Stratton VA Hospital in Albany, NY.

Born in Glens Falls, NY, Pete attended Fort Edward High School.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 1 February 1967.  He was trained as a Helicopter Mechanic (Spec. Code 6112), and served honorably for 4 years, including a one year tour of duty with HMM-262, MAG-16, 1st MAW in Vietnam. He was released from active duty on 28 January 1971 and honorably discharged from inactive reserve duty on 29 January 1973. For his service, he was awarded the Air Medal w/ Numeral “1”, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Bronze Campaign Star and the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device

Upon his return home, Pete was employed for many years at Scott Paper in Fort Edward, NY.

From Region 4 Senior Ride Captain Dan Nolin:  My good friend Pete Cheeney asked me to be sure the Patriot Guard Riders were at his funeral. Several years ago, I escorted him to Washington DC with the Honor Flight.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

Stage quietly for dignified transfer and then escort to Saratoga National Cemetery for a 11am service.
