About the Mission:
The family of Michael Anthony Scarchilli has requested Patriot Guard Riders' participation in his military honors funeral services. Michael, 75, passed on 24 February 2025.
Born in Troy, NY, Michael grew up in Waterford and graduated from Waterford High School, class of 1968. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War on 23 September 1968 and was trained as a Machine Gunner (MOS 0331). He completed 2 years of active duty, including a 1 year tour of duty assigned to "A" Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, (1/5), in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on 2 September 1970 at the rank of Corporal (E-4), and for his service was awarded a Purple Heart Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm and Frame, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device and Marksman Badge - Rifle.
After his military service, Michael was employed by Haughton Elevator Company and the Mohawk Paper Mill before moving on to G.E. Silicone, later known as Momentive Performance Materials, for more than 36 years. During that time, he worked as a Pipe Fitter, served on the Fire Brigade as the Safety Officer, and was the President of the Union for a full term.

Special Information:
Staging at the funeral home with a flag line for the arrival of family and guests. Members will stand during the last hour of the Visitation period 11:00 am - 12:00 pm. At the conclusion of the visitation, members will provide an escort to Saratoga National Cemetery for interment with military honors.
Note: While the services are being held at the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home in Waterford, they are being conducted by Rossi & DiToro Funeral Home of Schenectady.
