About the Mission:

The family of Martin R. "Marty" Van Buren has requested Patriot Guard Riders' participation in his military honors funeral services. Martin, 68, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024, in Glenville, NY.

Born in Schenectady, NY, Martin was a graduate of Schalmont High School's Class of 1974. He enlisted in the US Navy on 1 November 1976, and was trained as a Radioman. He served almost 3 years on active duty, including 2 years at sea aboard the USS Chicago (CG-11), a Baltimore-Class heavy cruiser, and was honorable discharged at the rank of Seaman (E-3), on 1 November 1979.

Following his military service, Marty studied at the United Electronics Institute in Tampa, FL. His talents were showcased by the different careers that he had; he worked as a welder, tin knocker and in construction. Marty’s most notable position was working as a laborer for the NYSDEC Saratoga Tree Nursery in Saratoga Springs, NY until his retirement.

Special Information:

Staging at the funeral home with a flag line for the arrival of family and guests. Funeral service scheduled for 10:00 am, followed by dignified transfer.  Members will escort to Saratoga National Cemetery for interment with military honors.
