About the Mission:

The family of Mr. Joseph P. Littlejohn has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. Mr. Littlejohn, 85 passed on 21 September 2022.

Born in Hackensack New Jersey, Mr. Littlejohn was a 1956 graduate of Hackensack High School. He went on to earn a B.A. degree in Sociology from Rutgers University, graduating in 1960. He enlisted in the United States Army that same year and received training as a paratrooper at Fort Bragg. After being promoted to the rank of Captain in 1965, he was transferred to the Army Support Command, 2nd Signal Group in Saigon, Republic of Vietnam and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his meritorious service while stationed there. He returned home in 1966, rose to the rank of Major and was honorably discharged in 1969. For his service, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and 1 Overseas Service Bar.

Mr. Littlejohn had the opportunity to participate in an Honor Flight out of Albany several years ago and was recognized as the highest-ranking veteran aboard. Afterwards, he spoke many times in the following years about what a wonderful experience it was for him.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Updated 8 March 2022

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: NYS Guidelines of 2 March 2022, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

Staging in the parking lot to meet with family members who will be transporting Mr. Littlejohn's cremains. There is no funeral home involvement, so they have asked us to take the lead on the escort.  Anticipated KSU of 09:00 am. Interment at Saratoga National Cemetery is scheduled for 10:00 am.

Second Stage - Special Information:

Interment with military honors scheduled for 10:00 am.

Note that there is a new staging protocol for Saratoga National Cemetery.  PGR members will stage by parking ONLY on the right side of the roadway near Section 21.  If that area is full, the overflow parking area will be on the right side of the roadway near Interment Shelter 1.  Please park as closely together as possible.  As always, you are asked to stage quietly and respectfully.  Interment services for this mission will be conducted in Interment Shelter 1.    Please click here to view a map of the designated area
