About the Mission:

The family of John L. Van Luyk has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services.  John, 89, died peacefully on February 20, 2023, at his home at Schenectady Center for Rehabilitation after a prolonged illness.

Born in Bloomfield, John graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1951. After High School, he enlisted in the US Navy on 5 August 1952.  He served as an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate, Petty Officer 2nd Class, and spent 2 years 11 months at sea, including time aboard the USS Saipan (CVL-48), a light aircraft carrier.  He was honorably discharged on 27 July 1956, and for his service, received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Occupation Medal and United Nations Service Medal.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

Interment with military honors is scheduled for 12:30 pm.  Please stage quietly and in accordance with current guidelines.
