About the Mission:
The family of John H. Derado has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. John, 86, passed away peacefully after a long illness on January 12, 2024 at the Eddy Heritage House in Troy, NY.
Born in Troy, NY, John was a graduate of Watervliet High School, Class of 1955. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force on 5 October 1955 and was trained as a Bomb Navigation System Mechanic (AFSC 32150M). He served on active duty until 4 October 1959 and was honorably discharged from the inactive reserves on 4 October 1961 at the rank of Airman 2nd Class (E-3). For his service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal while assigned to Headquarters, 96th Bomb Wing (Strategic Air Command).
After his military service, John began his career as a technical engineer at Channel 13 WAST (now WNYT) in Menands, NY. He worked at WAST for many years before joining Channel 6 WRGB in Schenectady, NY, where he eventually retired.

Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.
Special Information:
There is no funeral home involvement in this mission. Members will meet the family in the parking lot of Vent Fitness with KSU of 10:40 am for escort to Saratoga National Cemetery.
