About the Mission:

The family of John F. Jankowy has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. John, 78, passed on February 2, 2024.

Born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, John graduated from WM Floyd High School in 1962 and went on to graduate from the State University at Farmingdale with a degree in agriculture in January 1965. He attended Cornell University for a short time before being drafted into the Army in October of 1965. He served in Vietnam from October 1968 to October 1969 with the 1218th S and S Company as a convoy tanker driver delivering fuel. He was honorably discharged from the reserves in 1973 with the rank of Platoon Staff Sergeant (E-6).  For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device.

John worked for various places over the years such as General Electric for 30 years, Mohonasen Central School District as a bus driver, and the Town of Glenville, Town Hall and Police Department. John was a life member of the VFW Post 4660, joining in 1996. He served as Commander from 1999- 2008. John was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 10013 since 2001.
