About the Mission:
The family of Joel M. Nolin has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. Joel, 86, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023 after a long illness. Joel is a cousin of PGRNY Region 4 Senior Ride Captain "Big Dan" Nolin.
Born in Fort Edward, NY, Joel grew up in Hudson Falls, and enlisted in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War, on 25 September 1953. He served as a Marine assault amphibious vehicle (AAV) crewmen (Specialty Code 1833), for a total of 3 years, including 1 year and 6 months overseas. He was honorably discharged from active duty at the rank of Private First Class (E-2) on 24 September 1956, and completed his reserve duty obligation on 24 September 1961. For his service, Joel was awarded The USMC Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
After his military service, Joel married, started a family, and began a career with Sandy Hill Iron and Brass that would last for more than 30 years. Later, he became very involved in his stepson's athletic endeavors, serving as little league coach and football equipment manager. After retiring, Joel enjoyed being in his brother Bill's boat fishing on the Hudson River. But he was happiest in the seat of 18-wheeler, heading down an open highway, a cup of coffee in the cup holder and CB mic in his hand.
