About the Mission:

The family of Jesse "Robert" Powell has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his funeral services. Robert passed on July 27, 2024, at the age of 97.

Robert was born in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from high school located on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, NY, he joined the US Merchant Marines with the United States Coast Guard in 1946, where he served as a fireman and water tender. He was later drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War, and served from September 29, 1950 to July 2, 1952. He was assigned to "G" Company, 23rd RTC, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Division, 8th Army between February and November of 1951, during which time he was wounded in action. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant First Class and among his many awards, he received a Purple Heart.

After the service, Robert settled in Schenectady, New York. He worked as an accountant for Sysco Food Distribution for a number of years before retiring.

Special Information:

Staging at the funeral home with a flag line for the arrival of family and guests. Members will stand during Visitation hours 2:00 - 4:00 pm. A PGR plaque will be presented during that time, as interment services will be conducted at the family's convenience, at a later date.
