About the Mission:

The family of James Peter Guyatte has requested Patriot Guard Riders' participation in his military honors funeral services. James, 82, died peacefully Friday, February 14, 2025 at Mary’s Haven Hospice in Saratoga Springs.

Born in Troy, NY, Jim was raised in Watervliet and graduated from St. Patrick’s Grammar School and LaSalle Institute class of 1961. He worked at his family’s business, the former Walt’s Diner on Broadway in Watervliet before enlisting in the United States Navy on 9 March 1964. he was trained as an Electricians Mate, and served 1 year and 7 months assigned to the US Naval Inshore Undersea Warfare Group Two assigned to the Amphibious Base Little Creek, Norfolk, Virginia. He was honorably discharged on 6 March 1966 with a rating of Electricians Mate 3, and a rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class (E-4).  For his service, he was awarded the National defense Service Medal.

Upon returning home, Jim worked as a part time police officer with the Watervliet Police Department. He was employed by Niagara Mohawk Power Company (later National Grid) in Schenectady for over 36 years as a substation trainer before retiring in 2003.

Special Information:

Staging at the funeral home with a flag line for the arrival of family and guests. There will be a 10:00 am funeral service, followed by escort to Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 2501 Troy-Schenectady Road, Niskayuna, NY 12309, for interment with military honors.
