About the Mission:

The family of James D. Peterson has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. James, 88, of Hyde Park, previously of Las Vegas, NV, passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021, at The Eleanor Nursing Care Center at Hyde Park.

Born in the Bronx, James graduated from Monroe High School, Class of 1949. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Borie (DD-704), an Allen M. Sumner-class destroyer, from 1951-1955, as a Radioman 2nd Class. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class, and for his service, was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was a long-time member of the Tin Can Sailors organization.

Jim built a 30-year career with AT&T that relocated him to the San Francisco area of California. He left AT&T and after holding a variety of other positions, relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada. While in Nevada, Jim expanded his resume by working for a Rock and Roll radio station (KKLZ), a commercial airline (Key Airlines) and then settled into his final 20+ year career working for Wal-Mart in the sporting goods department. Only within that last 6 years did Jim make the tough decision to retire! He experienced the Hudson Valley Honor Flight to Washington, DC.
