About the Mission:
The family of the Honorable Howard Charles Nolan, Jr. has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. Senator Nolan, 90, passed on Saturday, June 17th, 2023.
Born in Albany, Senator Nolan entered the United States Marine Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant during the Cold War Era, on 14 December 1957. He served as a Judge Advocate while assigned to Camp Le Jeune, NC with the 2nd Marine Division. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on 13 July 1959 and honorably discharged from active duty on 14 December 1960.
As a lifelong resident of Albany, Senator Nolan co-founded the law firm Nolan & Heller, LLP more than 50 years ago. He was elected to the State Senate in 1974, and served the 42nd District in Albany County for 20 years. He had served on various boards, including President of the New York Thoroughbred Breeders, Inc., on the Board of Trustees for St. Peter’s Hospital, and on the Board of Directors for the State of New York Mortgage Agency, the Community Foundation for the Capital Region and WMHT. He had also served as Chairman of the Cerebral Palsy Center for the Disabled Foundation Board, the Knights of Columbus, The Ancient Order of the Hibernians, the Albany Chamber of Commerce, and Breeders’ Cup Ltd. Howard graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in 1950, The College of the Holy Cross in 1954 and Albany Law School of Union University in 1957.

Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.
Special Information:
Staging at the funeral home with a flag line for the arrival of family and guests. Dignified transfer will be followed by escort to St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Rd. Loudonville, NY 12211, for a 10:30 am Funeral Mass. Upon conclusion of services, the cortege will return to the funeral home. Interment at Saratoga National Cemetery will take place on Tuesday, 27 June 2023. See details following.
