Honor Mission

Glen R. Roberts, Sr.

US Army

Multi-City, NY - 07/06/2023

Mission applies to the following Region(s):

Region 4, Region 5

About the Mission:

The family of Glen R. Roberts, Sr. has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. Glen, 66, of Maplewood, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2023.

Born in Cohoes, NY, Glen graduated from Ballston Spa High School in 1975. He went on to enlist in the U.S. Army 14 August 1975 and was trained as a Military Policeman (MOS 95B10).  He served a total of 3 years and 4 months, and was honorably discharged on 11 August 1978 at the rank of Specialist 4th Class (E-4).  For his service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and marksman Badge (M-16A1 Rifle and .45 Caliber Pistol).

After his military service, he landed his first job as a mechanic for Cargill and worked for 28 years. After leaving Cargill, he began working for the Town of Colonie and retired in 2020 after 18 years of service due to his ALS diagnosis. Glen was also a dedicated volunteer firefighter, and when he wasn’t working or with family, he could be found in fellowship with his fellow volunteer firefighters.

The first firehouse he served in was Arvin Hart Firehouse in Stillwater. However, the Maplewood Volunteer Fire Department would be the one he would call “home” as he was an active member from October 1985 until his last breath. In 2001, he was awarded “Fireman of the Year.” Throughout his 38 years of service, he advanced through the ranks and eventually became Assistant Chief, then Deputy Chief and culminated in his appointment as the Chief for four years (2005-2008). Afterward, he also served on the Board of Directors.

Portions of the above narrative are contained in Glen's obituary, available for viewing online by clicking here
