About the Mission:
The family of Frederick J. Benedetto has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. Fred, 76, peacefully passed away at home on December 7, 2022 in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.
Raised in Albany, New York, Fred entered the US Navy on 30 June 1965 after graduating from Albany High School. He served as an Able Seaman with 1 year and 10 months aboard the USS Saratoga (CVA-60), a Forrestal-class aircraft carrier. He was released to the Navy Reserve on 20 June 1967, and was honorably discharged at the rate of Seaman (E-3) on 14 April 1969. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
Fred retired from Travelers Insurance Company after 33 years of service, having started his career as an auto damage appraiser. He then became an area supervisor, Regional Manager for the Northeast Region, worked for the Home Office, and became responsible for the National Appraisal Program, was Vice-President of Sales for Precision Damage Control Services, was involved in industry advisory boards, and finally oversaw auto physical damage vendor relations. Following his retirement from Travelers/CitiGroup, he finished his career after 12 years with Insurance Auto Auctions, where he was Director of Customer Relations and developed an external audit program.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.
Special Information:
Staging is at the funeral home with a flag line inside for the arrival of family and guests. A funeral service with military honors is scheduled for 11:00 am. Ride Captain will present a plaque during the service. There is no further involvement by PGR. After the service, the veteran will be cremated and his remains will be returned to South Carolina for interment at a future date.
Note: During the Winter months, flag lines may take place indoors where masks may still be required. Please ensure that you have a mask with you should the need arise, and observe safe social distancing as much as possible.
