About the Mission:

The family of Ernest C. Niforos has requested Patriot Guard Riders' participation in his military honors funeral services. Ernest, 78, of Gloversville, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 20, 2025.

Ernie was born in Plattsburgh, NY and entered the US Navy during the Vietnam War on 18 November 1968. He served a total of 3 years and 9 months on active duty, including 2 years and 9 months at sea aboard the USS Basilone (DD/DDE-824), a Gearing-class destroyer. He was honorably discharged on 28 August 1972 with a rating of Yeoman and a rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. For his service, he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Medal and National Defense service Medal.

After his time in the Navy, Ernie returned to finish his degree in History. He moved to Johnstown in 1981 and co-owned and operated New York Lunch in downtown Gloversville. He was later employed as chef at the Desmond in Albany and, in 1993, he purchased Tegeo’s Luncheonette in Gloversville and operated that until his retirement in 2006. He was also a 38-year member and past president of Pleasant Square Fire Company and a past president of the Gloversville Lions Club.

Special Information:

Staging at the church with a flag line for the last hour of Visitation, 10:00 - 11:15 am. Funeral service scheduled for 11:30 am, followed by escort to Saratoga National Cemetery for interment with military honors.

En route to the cemetery, the cortege will pause at the Pleasant Square Fire Department where a Last Call ceremony will be conducted.
