The family of Dominic Scavia, Jr. has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. Dominic, 96, passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at home.

Born in Schenectady, Dominic was a 1945 graduate of Nott Terrace High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in April of 1945, and served as a combat swimming instructor, preparing troops for the Pacific Theater. His duty stations included Camp Pendleton, California, and the Main Gate Detachment, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Private First Class (E-2) during September of 1946, and for his service, was awarded the US Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

After the War, Dom returned to Schenectady where he worked for the General Electric Company for 40 years, retiring as Supervisor of Test Operations for the Gas Turbine Division in 1986. In retirement, he was the president of the GEAA where he organized and enjoyed many trips within the US and abroad with friends and family. He was an enthusiastic member of the WWII Veterans Club, enjoying comradery with fellow vets, including taking to the sky in a WWII biplane at the age of 93. He was a former member of the Holy Name Society at St. Anthony’s Church and a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Peace and St. Anthony’s Church.

Portions of the above narrative are contained in Dominic's obituary that was provided by his family.
