About the Mission:
The family of United States Air Force Colonel (Retired) Marilyn Claire Amodeo Floro has requested Patriot Guard Riders' participation in her military honors funeral services. Colonel Floro, 88, passed on October 10, 2024.
Born in Albany, NY, Marilyn earned her Nursing Diploma from St. Peter’s in 1956. She graduated in 1966 with her Bachelors degree from the Columbia School of Nursing and then, in 1972, earned her Masters in Nursing at Russell Sage College. After earning her Masters Degree, she entered the US Air Force with a Captain's commission in 1974, and across her 23 year career, served in many locations across the USA and overseas. One of her favorite jobs was her assignment as a Flight Nurse and Assistant Chief Nurse in the 9th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron out of Clark AB in the Philippines. Perhaps her greatest sense of personal achievement came from her time as Commander of the 10th Aeromedical Staging Flight, and the 89th Aeromedical Staging Squadron at Andrews AFB in Maryland. There she organized and oversaw the intense effort to receive wounded soldiers from Operation Desert Storm in Iraq.
She retired in 1998 as a full Colonel (O-6), and for her service, was awarded; the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal w/3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award w/4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon w/4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters and an Air Force Training Ribbon.
