About the Mission:

The family of Benson D. Persing has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. Ben, 77, of Delanson passed away on Monday, June 19th at home.

Born in Corning, NY, Ben grew up in Jefferson, NY and graduated from high school in 1965. He enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War on 2 November 1965. He was trained as an Aviation Ordnanceman, and was assigned to the USS Shangri-La (CVS-38), an Essex-class aircraft carrier. He served 3 years and 11 months on active duty, with 3 years and 9 months at sea. He was released from active duty on 1 October 1969, and honorably discharged on 8 October 1971 with a rating of Aviation Ordnanceman 3rd Class (AO3), and a rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class (E-4).  For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

After retiring from his life-long career as a professional tractor trailer driver, Ben most recently enjoyed delivering meals for Meals on Wheels in the Duanesburg area as a volunteer.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

Staging at the funeral home with a flag line for the dignified transfer. Escort to Saratoga National Cemetery to follow, with anticipated KSU by 12:30 pm.
NOTE:  Please stage quietly as a Funeral Service will be conducted beginning at 11:30 am.
