About the Mission:
The family of Alfred M. Fields, Jr. has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. Alfred, 82, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 20, 2023 at the Stratton VA Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Troy, Alfred graduated from Tamarac High School and went on to proudly serve in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Entering the Army on 12 February 1965, he was trained as an Ammunition Storage Specialist (MOS 55B20). He served almost two years on active duty, including a one year tour of duty in Vietnam. He was released from active duty on 10 February 1967, and was honorably discharged at the rank of Specialist 4th Class (E-4) after completion of his inactive reserve obligation on 11 February 1971. For his service, Alfred was awarded the US Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Bronze Service Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, Overseas Service Bars (2) and Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle). Alfred served with the Army Reserves and was stationed with the 464 Engineers in Schenectady.
After being honorably discharged, he returned home and was employed at the Watervliet Arsenal for 25 years until retiring in 2001. He also worked as a truck driver in the area working for Abbt Express, Elliot Trucking, Pittstown Petroleum, Ryder Trucking, GE and Swanknit. He belonged to the Local Teamsters Union 294. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1881 in Averill Park as well.

Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.
Special Information:
Staging at the funeral home with a flag line for the dignified transfer. Escort to St. Augustine's Church, 25 115th St., Troy, for 9:00 am funeral services. Upon conclusion of church services, members will escort the cortege to Memory Gardens, 983 Watervliet Shaker Rd., Albany, NY 12205 for interment with military honors.
