About the Mission:

The adoptive family of Ted Black has asked Patriot Guard Riders to help honor his service and celebrate his life during calling hours and services. Ted passed away on 30 June 2023 at the age of 71.

Mr. Black, a Vietnam War Era veteran of the US Marine Corps attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC, E-2), with MOS: 0331, Machine Gunner. He served one year and then was honorably retired due to disability on 31 July 1969.

PFC Black earned: National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Marksmanship Qualification Badge.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Updated 8 March 2022

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR members will form a flag line at 12:15 pm for mourners entering and leaving calling hours.  Following calling hours at 1:30 pm, we will perform a dignified transfer and escort Mr. Black to:
Woodlawn Cemetery
1200 Walnut St.
Elmira, NY 14905

If you cannot make it for calling hours, consider meeting us at the cemetery. Be at the cemetery by 1:45 pm to ensure you arrive before the cortege. At Woodlawn, PGR members will perform a dignified transfer to the gravesite and render honors with the military honor guard.  Following services, PGR members will render a final salute as Mr. Black is laid to his final rest.

Please come prepared with a U.S. or Marine Corps flag. Dress for the weather and ensure that flags on your vehicles are firmly attached. Thank you for taking the time to honor PFC Black's service to America.
