About the Mission:

The family of Wayne K. Bennett has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his funeral services.  Wayne, 75, passed away on March 19, 2023.

A 1966 graduate of Norwich High School, Wayne served his country honorably in the US Army, including a tour of duty in Vietnam.  Upon completion of basic combat training, Wayne was recognized as an outstanding trainee, and was promoted to Private (E-2) two months ahead of the customary timeframe.  During February of 1969, then Sergeant Bennett was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious service in ground operations against hostile forces in Vietnam.  At the time, he was a team chief with Company "E", 43rd Signal Battalion in Long Binh, Vietnam.  For his service, Wayne was awarded a Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Overseas Service Bars and an Expert Marksmanship Badge.

Upon his discharge, Wayne worked for Crane Silo, Raymond Corporation, and the Chenango County Highway Department where he retired in 2002 after 30 years of dedicated service. Wayne was a longtime member of the East Pharsalia Baptist Church, the Pharsalia Fire Department, Pharsalia Town Board, and the Preston Cemetery Association. He was an avid hunter, trapper, gun and car lover, but most of all, a devoted family man.

Portions of the above narrative are contained in Wayne's obituary, available for viewing online by clicking here
