About the Mission:

The family of retired US Air Force Colonel James D. leslie III has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in his funeral services.  Colonel Leslie, 82, passed away at home in Buffalo, NY on November 20, 2022.

Colonel Leslie is a veteran of the Vietnam War, who served three tours as a medic in 1966, 1967, and 1968, Operation Just Cause, and Operation Desert Shield/Storm. For his service, he earned: the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with 6 Air Force (AF) Organizational Excellence (OLC)/Air Medal, AF Commendation Medal, AF Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, AF Outstanding Unit Award with 5 OLC/AF Organizational Excellence Award, National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, AF Overseas Long Tour Ribbon with 1 OLC/AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon with 6 OLC/Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon with 1 OLC/AF Training Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Device, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Jim served honorably in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Colonel. After retirement from the Air Force, Jim worked as a consultant with the Veterans Administration and Military Healthcare System. Mrs. Leslie was a member of the Arlington Ladies, ensuring no veteran was ever buried alone.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

We will meet at 9:30 am to form/stand a flag line for the arrival of family and guests for an 11:00 AM service. Burial will take place at  Arlington National Cemetery in 2024. Come dressed for the weather, Please bring an  American flag or Air Force flag. The mission will end at the completion of the service. Military honors will be rendered at Arlington. Please attend to honor this true American hero and his family
