About the Mission:

The family of James M. Cassidy has requested PGR to help honor his service to us all and celebrate his life. Mr. Cassidy passed away 20 July 2023 at the age of 97.

Mr. Cassidy was a US Army veteran, who served in World War II as a Private. Private Cassidy served one year and eight months active duty 1944 -1945. Of that time, five months was foreign duty. Private Cassidy fought in the Battle of the Bulge where he earned a Purple Heart Medal and a Bronze Battle Star for action at Adennes Alsace. Private Cassidy fought with Company I, 359th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division. He was honorably discharged due to disability 12 September 1945.

Private Cassidy Earned: Purple Heart Medal ~ Good Conduct Medal ~ European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon w/ One Bronze Battle Star (Ardennes) ~ World War II Victory Medal ~ Combat Infantry Badge ~ Honorable Discharge Pin (Ruptured Duck) ~ New York State Conspicuous Service Cross.

Mr. Cassidy was also a retired Monroe County Deputy Sheriff who served in the Jail Division.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR members will form a flag line at the church for the arrival of Mr. Cassidy and his family, expected about 12:30 pm.  We will perform a dignified transfer from the hearse to the church, and continue the flag line until services begin, expected at 1:00pm.  Following services, PGR members will perform a dignified transfer and ride escort with the cortege to White Haven Memorial Park.  If you are unable to participate at the church, please consider meeting the cortege at the entrance to:

At the cemetery, PGR members will perform a dignified transfer and participate in military honors during graveside services.  Following services, PGR members will perform a final salute as a group.

Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or US Army flag, dress for the weather, and ensure your large flags are securely attached. Thank you for devoting your time to help honor US Army Veteran and Monroe County Deputy Sheriff (Retired), Private James M. Cassidy's service to us all, and to support his loving family.
